Tis the season?....

One of the things I love about the holiday season is how it brings people out to shop that normally never leave the house. That means I get to see a lot of guys in Members Only jackets, and I really enjoy stuff like that. The other night I saw, not one, not two, but THREE guys wearing berets! Now in the spirit of the season, I really shouldn't make fun of something like that, but honestly, it is helping my fellow man by pointing out such a fashion faux pas. It's not like I would go up to someone and say "hey, you look like a dork!". That's just mean and uncalled for. I wasn't going to say anything, but fate conspired against me. There was a spot where things bottlenecked and nobody could move for a few moments. I let out a sigh of impatience when I noticed one the beret guys was standing right next to me. At that point I couldn't resist. I turned to him and proceeded to shake his hand. I said "I just wanted to thank you for all the good work you guys do". As he looked at me with a puzzled expression on his face, I continued: "....keep those streets safe!....God bless the Guardian Angels!", then I ducked into Baby Gap. I'm guessing he'll wear a baseball cap the next time he goes out.....hey, at least I didn't ask if his last name was Lewinsky, or something like that.......

I feel safer already......

It can be a little nerve-racking to work in a building that is a major terrorist target. There have been numerous new security precautions put in place in the past few months to thwart any possible attacks, and that's supposed to make everyone feel more secure. And the good news is that they work, as evidenced by the announcement yesterday that a guy was detained for bringing a firearm into the building. While it is a bit disconcerting to know that someone brought a gun in the building, it's good to know that they deal with such things harshly around here. In this case, the guy was told to take it home.....he probably wasn't even reimbursed for toll! That sends the message that they mean business. We were even sent the official policy of how future offenders will be dealt with. Since firearms are clearly prohibited, any violation "could result in removal from the property, loss of parking privileges, etc." Wow, a person could lose their parking spot!....talk about living in a police state! This is the price we pay to live in a safer America.....

Oh, and on a side note, it wasn't the Postal Guy in our office who brought the gun. To be honest, it did cross our minds when he didn't show up for work that it could be him. It turns out that he was just sick.....and besides, he had always hinted that when he goes nuts it would be with a flamethrower.....
